“Distorted Clamor is without a doubt a deep listen, and definitely not for folks with a short attention span. You really need to have time to spare, to let it play, fill, illuminate the room. Despite the music’s focus on the manipulation of minutiae, it magically creates an immense sense of space” – BAM BAM TON TON
“Bittersweet new age ambient bliss/white-outs by a pioneer of Spanish electronic music, still surfing the crest of a 2nd wind or wave that came about with renewed interest circa his creative binds forged with Amsterdam’s Music From Memory, here pushing into widescreen, decayed, noise-gnawed liminal zones akin Lawrence English and Tape Loop Orchestra” – BOOMKAT
Having been at the forefront of Spain’s experimental music scene since the late 1970s, multi-instrumentalist Suso Saiz formed the pivotal group Orquesta de las Nubes, studio project Música Esporádica, Suspended Memories and Trash of Dreams.
His work has been evolving towards the creation of textures, based on guitars and processes over acoustic elements and soundscapes. There are no synthesizers or electronic automatisms in his sound.
A prolific producer, he has recorded with Spain’s most singular popular musicians as well as with a number of luminary electronic and world music artists such as Steve Roach, Jorge Reyes, and Salif Keita, Christian Fennesz and Gigi Masin.
Suso’s universe is one that remains in constant mutation and emphasizes time above all else. His radiant drones are a nest of hidden feelings; they glisten with complex emotions and textures, teasing out moods of vulnerability and hope.
The most representative figure of Spain’s now cult experimental scene, Suso Sáiz remains an exploratory musician in a musical universe that knows no boundaries.
Dutch label Music From Memory has released Saiz’s latest works including Rainworks (2017), Nothing Is Objective (2019), Resonant Bodies (2022), Distorted Clamor (2024) and the retrospective Odisea (2016).
His latest release ‘Distorted Clamor’ (Music From Memory), the latest full-length album, came out in Dec 2024. The album showcases Saiz at his spellbinding best, continuing a prolific creative phase in a career that spans over 40 years. Building upon ‘Resonant Bodies’ and ‘Nothing Is Objective’, his most recent full length releases for Music From Memory, Saiz’s dedication to experimentation and conceptual approach to sound lie at the centre of ‘Distorted Clamor’. Spanning eleven compositions, Saiz’s mastery of timbre and ability to paint layers of sound with the subtlest of touches stand out unmistakably to the listener. As always, his radiant drones are a nest of hidden feelings; they glisten with complex emotions and textures, teasing out moods of vulnerability and hope.
